IntheAladdinvideogame,Gazeemisthefirstboss(orperhapsmini-boss)thattheplayermeets,wherehisdefeatresultsinhisdroppinghalfofthescarabamuletnecessarytoallowAladdintoproceedtotheCaveofWondersatasubsequentlevel. Manyyearsago,ayoungerSultancametothegardenofArbutusbecausehehadheardthatthemostbeautifulflowersgrewthere,topickaflowerforhisbride.ArbutusdidnotattempttoharmtheSultanuponhisentry,asheadmiredthebeautyofthegarden.ButthesorcererwasenragedwhentheSultanpluckedaflower,effectivelykillingit.InordertoallowtheSultantogofreehedemandedthatin20yearstimehebegiventheSultan'smostprecioustreasure.DesperatetoescapeandnotfullygraspingArbutus'meaning,theSultanquicklyagreedandhurriedaway.Twentyyearslater,ArbutuscametoAgrabahfortheSultan'smostprecioustreasure—Jasmine.AtnopointintheepisodedoeshemakeanyattempttophysicallyharmJasminedespiteholdinghercaptive,andevenbefriendsherbrieflyduetohergentlewords,herappreciationofhisartwork,andthefactthatsheisnamedafteraflower. TheGreatRift:Featuredintheepisode"TheGreatRift",ThisisamonstergeneratedbytheAmuletofKufu,whichfeedsontheangerofitswielder. AppearinginAladdinandtheKingofThieves[edit] Cassim[edit] Cassim(voicedbyJohnRhys-Davies,singingvoiceprovidedbyMerwinFoard)isAladdin'slong-lostwidowedfather. Longbeforetheeventsofthefirstfilm,helefthiswifeandnewbornsoninAgrabahinordertofindthelegendaryHandofMidassothathecouldprovideabetterlifeforthepoverty-strickenfamily,notwantingtobelookeddownupon.Sometimelater,hefellinwiththeFortyThieves,eventuallybecomingtheirleader(the"KingofThieves"),andincorporatedanewlaw:neverhurttheinnocent.OneofhisgoalsistofindtheOraclethatwouldguidehimtotheHand.Eventually,Cassim'stravelsbroughthimbacktoAgrabah,havinglearnedthattheOraclewasinsidetheSultan'sroyaltreasureroom,ironicallyonhisownson'sweddingdaytoPrincessJasmine. Havinghismencreateadistraction,CassiminfiltratesthetreasureroomandfindstheOracle,butisinterceptedbyAladdinandthetwofight,unawarethattheyarefatherandson,andCassimisforcedtoretreatempty-handed.Aftertheincidentatthewedding,AladdinusestheOracletolearnthathisfatherisaliveandfindshimwiththeFortyThieves,onlylearningthereandthenthatheistheirleader.HeandCassimfinallymeetwhenSa'luktriestomutinyandkillCassimfortheirunsuccessfulraidonthepalace.CassimavoidshavingAladdinkilledbyhavinghimfightSa'luk.AfterAladdindefeatsSa'lukbykickinghimoffacliff,CassimstatesthattheCodeofthe40Thievesisclearonthispointandstatesthatheisin. WhenhetellsAladdinoftheHandofMidasandjoinshiminAgrabah,AladdinhadtotalkGeniedownwhenAladdinintroducedhim.CassimandIagofoundwheretheOracleisonlyforthemtobeambushedbyRazoulandtheGuards.WhentheSultanlearnedthatCassimistheKingofThieves,hehadnochoicebuttohaveCassimandIagolockedinthedungeonwithalifesentence.WithhelpfromAladdinandGenie,CassimandIagogotoutandleftwiththeOracle.ReturningtoMountSesame,hefindsthatSa'lukhadturned7ofthe40Thievesthatevadedcaptureagainsthim.Sa'lukthenhasCassimcalltheOracletoguidethemtotheHandofMidas.TheOracleguidesthemtotheVanishingIsle(acastlefortressattachedonthebackofagiantturtle).ThankstoIagogettingaway,Aladdin,Genie,andCarpetheadtheretorescueCassim.CassimandAladdinfightSa'lukovertheHandofMidaswhichendswithSa'lukaccidentallyturnedtogold.Nowrealizingthathissonisthetreasureofhislife,CassimdiscardstheHandofMidasintotheseaandreconcileswithAladdin,finallyfreedfromhisgreed.CassimalsoshoweduptoindirectlycongratulatehimafterwatchinghisandJasmine'sweddingfromtheshadows,sinceheisstillawantedman.HeleavestoosoontotraveltheworldforsometimealongwithIago,whothinkshe'sfinallyfoundagreatcompanion. InDisneyPrincessEnchantedTales:FollowYourDreamsitisnotconfirmed,butsinceIagohasreturnedtoAgrabahashistravelswithCassimattheend,evenAladdin'sfatheriscertainlyreturned.However,justlikeAladdinandGenie,hedoesn'tappearsincethemainfocusisaboutJasmine. Whilenotappearinginthelive-actionremakeoftheoriginalfilm,Aladdin'sfatherismentioned.WhileAladdinexplicitlystatestoJasminethathismotherisdead,herespondsthathe"lostbothhisparents"whenhewasverylittlewhensheasksabouthisfather,leavingitambiguousastowhetherornotheisaliveintheremake. ThoughSa'luksurvivesandmakeshiswaytoAgrabah.Sa'lukgivesthehideout'spasswordtoRazoulinexchangeforimmunityfromprosecution.Thisledto33ofthe40Thievesgettingarrested,thoughaguardtellsRazoulthattheSultanwillnotsentencethemuntilafterAladdinandJasmine'swedding.Sa'lukwasdispleasedthatCassimisnotamongthemasheinformsRazoulthatAladdin'sfatheristheKingofThieves. Sa'lukheadsbacktoMountSesameandralliesthe7thievesthatevadedcapturetosidewithhim.WhenCassimandIagoreturntothehideout,theyarecapturedbySa'lukandforcedtocallforththeOraclewholeadsthemtotheVanishingIslewheretheHandofMidasislocated.DuringAladdinandCassim'sfightwithSa'luk,theHandofMidasistossedwhereSa'luktouchedthehandpartandisturnedtogold. FortyThieves[edit] TheFortyThievesareagroupofthievesandassassinsthatareledbyCassimwithSa'lukashissecond-in-command.TheymaketheirheadquartersinMountSesamebytheseawhereitcanbeaccessedbysaying"OpenSesame".ThatcreatesapathinthewatertoMountSesame.Cassimhadarulewhereitsmembersarenottoharmtheinnocent,muchtothedismayofSa'luk.SomeoftheminorunnamedmembersofthegangresemblemanyofAbisMal'shenchmen,aswellasafewoftheunnamedthieveswhoappearedattheThieves'QuartersontheTVshow,thoughit'snotcertainwhetherornotthesearethesamecharacters.
