Budgetissuesandachangeinleadershipatthefoundationin2017werethemostlikelyreasonsfor100RC’ssuddenexit,butaglimmerofhopeemergedwhenthefoundationagreedtocontinuefundingsomeofitsinitiatives,likethechiefresilienceofficer(CRO)rolesithadhelpedcreateincities. Sixmonthsonwearebeginningtoseewhatthetransitionlookslikewiththecreationoftwoneworganisations,ResilientCitiesCatalyst(RCC),whichwasunveiledlastweek,andtheGlobalResilientCitiesNetwork(GRCN),whichwillbeofficiallylaunchedattheWorldUrbanForumnextweek. Examplesofthesestressesincludehighunemployment;anovertaxedorinefficientpublictransportationsystem;endemicviolence;orchronicfoodandwatershortages.Byaddressingboththeshocksandthestresses,acitybecomesmoreabletorespondtoadverseevents,andisoverallbetterabletodeliverbasicfunctionsinbothgoodtimesandbad,toallpopulations.
