Hocus-pocus is a reference to the actions of magicians, often as the stereotypical magic words spoken when bringing about some sort of change. Conjecturedorigins[edit] Theoriginsofthetermremainobscure.ThemostpopularconjectureisthatitisagarbledLatinreligiousphraseorsomeformof‘dog’Latin.Somehaveassociateditwithsimilar-soundingfictional,mythical,orlegendarynames.Otherssuggestitismerelyacombinationofnonsensewords.
