Accordingtothedifferenceprinciple,thesocialcontractshouldguaranteethateveryoneanequalopportunitytoprosper.Inotherwords,ifthereareanysocialoreconomicdifferencesinthesocialcontract,theyshouldhelpthosewhoaretheworstoff.And,anyadvantagesinthecontractshouldbeavailabletoeveryone. So,accordingtoRawls,approachingtoughissuesthroughaveilofignoranceandapplyingtheseprinciplescanhelpusdecidemorefairlyhowtherulesofsocietyshouldbestructured.Andfairness,asRawlsandmanyothersbelieve,istheessenceofjustice.
