WhoWeAre News Thispagein: EN dropdown TiếngViệt Thispagein:_ English TiếngViệt dropdown PRESSRELEASE December27,2021 WorldBankLoanWillSupportVietnam’sEconomicRecovery Email Print Tweet Share Share LinkedIn Digg 人人网 StumbleUpon Delicious 新浪微博 HANOI,December27,2021—TheGovernmentofVietnamandtheWorldBankhassignedanagreementforfinancingofUS$221.5milliontosupportVietnam’srecoveryfromtheCOVID-19pandemicthroughpolicyreformsaimedatimprovingfinancialinclusionandspurringgreaterenvironmentalresilience.“Inthespiritofourlong-term,trustedandproductivepartnership,weareproudtosupportVietnamatthetimewhentheeconomyisrecoveringfromthebiggestshockofthepastdecadesandwhensomanyuncertaintiesremainaroundthepandemic,”saidWorldBankCountryDirectorforVietnamCarolynTurk.“Ibelievethattherangeofpolicyactionssupportedbythis operationwillnotonlycreateastrongfoundationfortheimmediaterecoveryfromtheCOVID-19crisisbutalsobenefitVietnaminthelongerrun.”TheUS$221.5-million-creditisabudgetsupportoperationandcomesintheformofconcessionaltermsforaperiodof30yearswithagraceperiodoffiveyears.Itencouragespolicyreformsundertwopillars.Thefirstsupportsaninclusiveeconomicrecoverybyeasingthetaxburdenonbusinesses,improvingaccesstofinancialassistanceamongvulnerablegroups,reducinggendergapsintheworkplace,andpromotingfinancialinclusion.Thesecondpillarcontributestogreeningtradepolicies,acceleratingtheadoptionofe-government,andincreasingtheuptakeofrenewableenergy.Thegovernmenthasmovedquicklyinrecentmonthsontheimplementationofthesereforms.Theapprovalofmobilemoneylicensesandtherolloutofelectronicinvoicesystemsinthecountry’slargestmunicipalitiesareexamplesofthis.ThepaceofreformisexpectedtoaccelerateaspartoftherecoverypackagetobediscussedattheNationalAssemblynextweek.ThecreditisprovidedthroughtheWorldBank’sInternationalDevelopmentAssociation(IDA),theBank’sconcessionallendingwindowforlow-incomecountries.
