Contactus Abstract Purpose –In‐depthtourismisanewtravelingpattern,whichcombinesthematictravelingexperienceandpersonalknowledge.Thispaperaimstoanalyzetheindustrycharacteristicsandapproachestodevelopandpromotein‐depthtourismfromaserviceinnovationperspective. Design/methodology/approach –Thepaperintroducestheconceptofin‐depthtourismandpresentstwocasestudiesdepictingthepracticesofthisnewapproach.Thepaperalsoincludestrainingandexercisesonin‐depthtourism'simplementation. Findings –Athree‐dimensionalframeworkconsistingofcustomervalue,regionalresourcesandcompetences,andtechnologyadoption(e.g.informationandcommunicationtechnologies)isdevelopedtoguideserviceinnovationsinthetourismindustry. Practicalimplications –Thenewtheoreticalframeworkandsetoftrainingexercisesprovidemanagementwiththetoolstoeffectivelycreateandpromoteserviceinnovationsthroughin‐depthtourism. Originality/value –Thepaperintroducestheconceptsandpracticesofin‐depthtourismfromaserviceinnovationperspective.Inaddition,theresearchprovidesseveralmanagerialandpolicyimplicationstomanageserviceinnovationsandtopromoteregionaldevelopmentthroughin‐depthtourism.
