Althoughoutputandinvestmentinadvancedeconomiesareprojectedtoreturntopre-pandemictrendsnextyear,theywillremainbelowinemergingmarketanddevelopingeconomies(EMDEs),owingtolowervaccinationrates,tighterfiscalandmonetarypolicies,andmorepersistentscarringfromthepandemic. Variousdownsideriskscloudtheoutlook,includingsimultaneousOmicron-driveneconomicdisruptions,furthersupplybottlenecks,ade-anchoringofinflationexpectations,financialstress,climate-relateddisasters,andaweakeningoflong-termgrowthdrivers.BecauseEMDEshavelimitedpolicyspacetoprovideadditionalsupportifneeded,thesedownsiderisksheightenthepossibilityofahardlanding. Theinternationalcommunitycanalsohelpbyscalingupclimatechangeadaptation,increasinggreeninvestments,andfacilitatingagreenenergytransitioninmanyEMDEs.Nationalpolicyactionscanalsobetailoredtopromoteinvestmentsinrenewableenergyandinfrastructureandtofostertechnologicaldevelopment.Inaddition,policymakerscanprioritizegrowth-enhancingreformsthatincreasepreparednessforfutureclimate-relatedcrises.
