Lackofeconomicviabilityandbusinessmodels Onlyfund-baseddemonstrationsandsubsidisedtestershavebeendeployedinresponsetothedesperateglobalcallforasolidinfrastructuretosupportelectricmobility.Alltheseinitiatives,mainlybasedonITCapplicationsorstandalonechargingstations,arenotfinanciallysustainableandaredealingonlywithasmallpartoftheparadigmshiftthatisrequiredforgeneralacceptance,andtherefore,theycannotbeconsideredasrealisticsolutionsyet. Integratingpublicandprivatesectors Oneofthemajorhurdlesinthedevelopmentofapropercharginginfrastructureisthelackofforesightofthestrategicfuturecooperationbetweenavastvarietyofpublicandprivatestakeholders,manyofwhichwerenotpreviouslyconnectedbeforeandnowmustcooperateandcommittothistransformationalprocess.Acomprehensiveapproachencompassingmobility,energy,andurbanplanningisessentialforeffectivedecisionmakingwithregardtoplanninganelectricvehicleinfrastructuresinceallthesesystemswillbecloselyinterlinked. GainingtrustonimperfectSmartCities Smartcitytechnologiesandurbanbigdataproduceprivacyconcernsamongtheinhabitants,workersandvisitorsofacity.CurrentEVpoliciesaimtocutemissions,butoftenelectricityisgeneratedfromdirtysources,orneglecttheimpactofpowerdemandneededtoseamlesslychargeacityfullofelectricvehicles,therebydentingthecredibilityofemission-reductiongoals. OurProject SUMOSUSTATIONS SUMOSUStationsproposeabasicnetworkofstationsthatprovidepubliclyaccessiblecharginginfrastructureforthewholee-mobilitysystemofacity,lookingaftertheneedsofusersrangingfrome-taxistocityelectricbuses,car-sharingfleetsandprivateusers.Moreover,thesestationshavealsobeendesignedtobecomekeyinfrastructurestoenableanefficientinteractionwiththegrid,increaseitssafetyandreliabilityandfavourlocally-basedenergydistributionandautonomy.
